What the label means, and why it matters next to your skin.
“Organic” on its own is easy to claim. GOTS certification covers every step from the field to the finished garment, and it is checked by an independent certifier.
Organic from the field
Our cotton is organic cotton grown in the Aegean region of Turkey, certified to GOTS at every step from the field to the finished garment.
Made without harsh chemicals
GOTS prohibits chlorine bleach and optical brighteners and strictly limits heavy metals. Our own list of restricted substances goes further than what's required.
OEKO-TEX certified factories
Every piece is made in OEKO-TEX certified factories within one small region of Turkey. From raw cotton to finished garment, our products travel only about 60 to 125 miles.

Our story
A family brand from Germany, now in America.
In 1994, Susanne and Kemal Bektaş went looking for organic, chemical-free clothing for their firstborn. They couldn't find it, so they started making it themselves in Bremen, Germany. That company became Leela Cotton.
In 2013, the second generation launched Albero Natur: organic cotton underwear and socks. After more than ten years in Europe, it's the same family, the same factories and the same standards, now in the US.
